A place for me to keep the scattered info on monticello versions 1.5 and 1.6 until it has a proper home and is released.
First of all, to load Monticello 1.5 into your image, do one of the following:
- From Package Universes, load Group Development/Monticello15 version 1.5+
- From SqueakMap, load Monticello1.5 version 1.5.586
- In a workspace, run
To load Monticello 1.6, do one of the following:
- From Package Universes, load Group Development/Monticello16 version 1.6+
- Install Monticello 1.5 using any method above, then upgrade it by running in a workspace:
The script is tested and works on every squeak version you care to use. If it doesn't, please report bugs to tapple on irc.freenode.net, channel #squeak, or email me at tapplek@gmail.com
Just to be clear, Installing monticello 1.5 by directly loading the .mcz files from http://www.squeaksource.com/mc.html is explicitly not supported. Doing so is almost guaranteed to break any monticello version in your image prior to 1.6 (yes, including 1.5). If you do get Monticello into an unusable state, just reinstall it using one of the above methods. The script is carefully crafted to work whether you have monticello or not, whether it works or not, and whatever version it may be. That means you don't have to uninstall anything before running it.
Yes, I know the script dirties up a bunch of packages it has no business touching, installs a bunch of fixes you don't understand (and probably don't need), installs Installer, and is difficult to understand. I'll get a better installation method someday (or I'll get it into any release you care about), but until then, you'll have to live with the script. Bug me about it on IRC and I may document how the script works and what most of the wierd patches are actually for.
